Leather bound, torn on the sides,
Ripped papers stuffed back in,
Left on a desk with too much clutter,
Was my love for legends
Along with the fairy dust, from travels beyond
If I close my eyes, will I remember?
That time, away from me—still it falls, down,
Take the pen to the hand; dip it in ink once more,
Try to write those stories of lore
Was it erased?
It seems so long ago…
Oh, those ashes of time and dust swell like the moon—
The moon on the birch tree
Come back, come back to stay!
The trees painted with moonlight—that beautiful brook cackling in delight
Why is it that it seems so far away?
Through the drawers,
Fly and flutter,
My book of legends!
Find it; find it—falling through that fiery sky again,
Holding on to the needle and thread,
Tuck it away; leave it for a day,
Perhaps that sun will shine again,
Maybe the dragon will come to rest,
The rainbows will fly—possibly fly,
If I tuck all the memories away
Into my love for legends

Ok, wow. I hope you know what you have done here. Because this is outstanding. It is very Tolkienian. For reals. I'm sure you know why. I mean the whole thing about trying to bring back the legends from long ago, time falling away and this past being so far away even if you are in the same geographical place...gives you that Lothlorien feeling...this is so good. Seriously.
I also think it is great how you chose to use the birch tree here--a symbol of rebirth (since you are talking about bringing back the past legends) AND it also was thought to protect you from faeries and evil spirits etc.
I dunno...I mean everything you've done here brings you back to the time Tolkien was trying to revive. The leather-bound book (from back when there was still something magical and elite about books) left and nearly forgotton among other clutter on a desk...the moon...the legends fluttering out of the book and into life...the almost apocolyptic fiery sky through which the legends fall...the needle and thread--that goes all the way back to the Greeks--the weaving of fate, legends, life itself, etc...the flying dragons and rainbows...WAAAA I don't know if you realize what you have created here but it is simply fantastic! And I would not just say that!
Like I've said, you have got some real, serious talent here. Don't ever quit writing like this. Even if you do something totally non-literary with your life...like...be a nuclear-physicist or something. Cuz this is really, really good.

I had absolutely no idea that I was being that deep until you pointed it out to me!
Err...Bad me! *hits self on head*
Well, I suppose, sub-conciously, I must have known what the hell I was doing.
lol.
Thank you so much! I'm kind of doing this in the middle of research/tech (mandatory class), when I'm not supposed to be doing this, so I would write more, but I just don't know what to say!
Lol! You pretty much wrote everything.
And it is SUCH the biggest compliment in the world to tell me I was writing like Tolkien and I was trying to revive what he was trying to revive and all that because I AM HIS (okay, one of them, at least) BIGGEST FAN.
You have no clue how much that means to me! So even though it is, like, dreary and depressing outside, I'm so warm and happy in the inside!
Merci beaucoup to you!

And Tolkien was a pretty cool guy. I had actually never read anything from him until last winter when I took a Tolkien and Mediaevalism class and it was one of the sweetest things ever. Definitely a TON more going on that what's on the surface--and even on the surface is a lot! That guy was such a genius. Plus he could speak like, fluent Anglo-Saxon. I mean who can do that, seriously. o.o ^o^
Anyway, *high-5* for you!

He made up elvish, Black Speech of Mordor, dwarvish, and lord knows what else. Heck, he was lucky that English was already invented!
Tee hee hee tee.
Thank you! I really don't deserve your compliments. You are so much more experienced and whatnot. I really should be worshiping you! Don't worry, I'm at your feet! Lol.
